Roy Lewis has contributed to The Motley Fool since 1995, concentrating on the minutiae of taxes. He has co-authored four Motley Fool Tax Guides and writes a weekly tax article for Fool.com.

Roy earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from California State University Fullerton in 1974, and then completed his graduate work at CSU Long Beach in 1976. A sports legend in his own mind, he got his first real job in 1972 in with Windes, McClaughry & Co., CPAs... only because the HR director needed a power-hitting first baseman to fill out the company softball team. He also held a position as controller of the Long Beach Marina, Arena, and Entertainment Center Complex.

After relocating to Lake Arrowhead, Calif., in 1979, he became the top pencil pusher for The Lake Arrowhead Marinas, Inc. But it was quickly apparent that private practice was where Roy needed to be (after his marina employees tried to drown him). He has maintained his practice since 1980. Again, wanderlust hit him in 1990 when he bid the People's Republic of California a fond farewell and moseyed eastward to find his fame and fortune in the Arizona desert. He found neither, so he opened a tax office instead. Roy currently lives in Tempe, Ariz., a broken and bitter man.
