15-Second Bio: From his earliest days, George Runkle (TMF Runkle) wanted to be a giraffe. Upon discovering this was impossible, he decided to become a scientist, but instead became an engineer. He worked tirelessly after he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland, but in spite of his best efforts, kept ending up in Cubicle Hell. Some escapes from the Cubicles of Engineering took him to Central America, Abu Dhabi, Italy, and Japan. However, he made his "Great Escape" recently and joined the Fool full-time. He still does a bit of independent consulting engineering on the side, and travels about with the Air Force Reserve.

The Best of TMF Runkle
During George's torturous years in high school, his ninth grade English teacher told him he was a good writer (and threatened to have him suspended for the content of his composition). Being a typical guy, George heard what he wanted to hear ("you mean I'm a good writer?"). Over the years he wrote for newsletters, engineering magazines, and other exciting publications. Then on one fine day in 1995, he submitted this to the Fool:
A Penny Saved is a Penny Wasted.
While he has always done well making money, management of it hasn't always been George's fine point. He discusses this in:
Home Equity Horror Story
George moved onward into Foolishness after that unfortunate incident, and now contributes every Monday to the Drip Portfolio report.
George also has his own message board, "Hype, Hysteria, and Runkle."
We're not quite sure what he's doing there. You'd better check it out yourself.
