Tribune Company The Company Tribune Company is an information, education and entertainment company. Through its subsidiaries, the Company is engaged in the publishing of newspapers, books, educational materials and information in print and digital formats and the broadcasting, production and syndication of information and entertainment in metropolitan areas in the United States. The company was founded in 1847 and incorporated in Illinois in 1861. As a result of a corporate restructuring in 1968, the Company became a holding company incorporated in Delaware. Publishing constituted 56% of the company's revenues in the latest quarter. The company's major newspapers include Chicago Tribune, Ft. Lauderdale's Sun-Sentinel, and the Orlando Sentinel. Included among the Tribune's diverse holdings are the Chicago Cubs professional baseball franchise. Latest Financials Tribune Company reported record primary net income per share of $.58 for the fourth quarter and a record $2.10 for the full year 1996, excluding non-recurring items. Per share results reflect a two-for-one common stock split that became effective Jan. 15, 1997. On a pre-split basis, primary net income per share would have been $1.15 for the quarter and $4.20 for the full year. The company also reported record EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortization and non-recurring items) of $171 million for the quarter and $623 million for the full year.
