Operation HOPE, Inc. (HOPE) is a non-profit, public benefit organization, founded immediately following the civil unrest of April 29, 1992 in Los Angeles. We have been in existence for 15 years, operating with more than 400 private sector partners, 1,500 non-profit and school partners, and 100 government partners, in 51 U.S. cities and three cities in South Africa. HOPE is America's leading provider of economic tools and services, as well as an effective facilitator, lender, advocate, and educator for, and on behalf of, the other America.

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton says of Operation HOPE in his recent book entitled, Giving, "Both young people and adults need basic knowledge about how our economy functions as well as the skills to make it work for them. Operation HOPE seeks to give those skills to people who otherwise would be left out and left behind."
Banking On Our Future
Operation HOPE's response to the need for financial education for youth is Banking on Our Future (BOOF). Founded in 1996, BOOF is an ongoing financial literacy program for youth ages 9-18, provided at no cost to the school district, and focused on underserved communities. We plan to continue serving the youth of our target communities as long as financial literacy is not a required part of their school curriculum. BOOF acts as a catalyst of empowerment by exposing youth to their potential financial future and encourages parents, teachers, government, community, and corporate America to lead by example and work with youth to enact comprehensive change in behavior.
Silver Rights And Hope Centers
In addition to BOOF, HOPE works in the area of silver rights. Where civil rights can be defined by a removal of choices made by others for the poor, subsequently made "legal," silver rights can be defined as the creation of new, bold, empowering choices by the poor, for the poor, made right. Quoting Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in 1968, as he launched the "Poor People's Campaign," his last and most ambitious campaign, "You cannot legislate goodness, and you cannot pass a law to force people to respect you. The only way to social justice in a capitalist country is through economic parity (ownership)." Through a series of public/private partnerships and strategic alliances, HOPE has developed and implemented programs focused on connecting the minority community with mainstream, private sector resources, and empowering under-served communities.

Another way the Operation HOPE Center is a working "one stop" model location for empowerment is by converting renters into homeowners and dreamers into viable business owners, increasing net worth, and improving the economic quality of life for individuals and families in emerging markets. The Operation HOPE Center is able to accomplish these objectives by providing innovative empowerment services that consist of adult financial literacy workshops, money management, budgeting and credit counseling, mortgage and business lending counseling, investment and retirement planning, home buyer down payment assistance matching grants, small business technical assistance, and post funding counseling.
