Lesson 1: Retire When You Want
The Power of Homework

Format for Printing Format for printing

We think that no one can control their finances and their future as well as you. We're not only going to show you how -- you'll actively start planning for your retirement! In that vein, each lesson includes homework. Working through each assignment will bring you one step closer to shaping your own retirement (and since you can work on it whenever you want, you won't have to give up that playground time).

In this seminar there will be three basic types of homework:

The hypothetical couple. You'll read about the retirement goals of a hypothetical couple as an example of how someone might work through the planning process. Doing this will let you get comfortable with some of the seminar's tools, and ensure you're using them correctly.

The Retirement Workbook. Each lesson will direct you to pages in your workbook (which we'll download at the end of this lesson) where you will be able to work through the material presented in each lesson.  It's your hands-on retirement navigation device. Using your workbook will not only help you create your retirement plan, but will also keep all of your information in one place!

The Seminar Boards. There's nothing like feedback to help you refine your goals and your roadmap to meeting them. By clicking on the Seminar Boards link after each lesson or the Discussion Boards link in the Course Info box on the right, you'll be able to head over to the seminar boards, where you can bounce ideas off other participants, learn from other people's planning, and get your questions answered. These boards are exclusively for seminar participants.

If you've never used discussion boards before, we encourage you not to be intimidated. At first, it may seem somewhat strange to share your thoughts with complete strangers, but we assure you that there are lots of great Fools out there -- just like you -- who are interested in learning about retirement, and the power of collaborative learning is one of the most enjoyable benefits of an online seminar.
