Cash-King Portfolio Report
by Tom Gardner

Alexandria, VA (May 29, 1998) -- A short report this Friday; I'm on the road -- from Midland, Michigan to St. Paul, Minnesota. I do want to make a brief announcement and then provide a few links. First, next week, we're going to announce plans for our 8th Cash-King investment. We think you're going to love how Foolish our approach is to this one. Tune in on Tuesday to get the skinny. You won't want to miss it.

Second, I do want to link in the winner of the Qualities of a Foolish Investor reward, outlined on Wednesday. The win goes to a computer programmer in Charlotte, N.C. -- CalicoJoe, who wrote two separate posts. The first championed the need for long-term faith both in our public markets and in our individual ability to measure values on it. And the second promoted the need for perspective -- a context to understand the historical performance of stocks and, more importantly, the recognition that a whole life spent beating the market isn't a joyous one. Maximizing rewards while reducing the labor and opportunity costs is what great business is all about. Thanks, Joe, Fool ballcap and book coming atcha.

Hope you all enjoy these two posts:

1. Qualities of a Foolish Investor: Faith
2. Qualities of a Foolish Investor: Perspective

And finally this evening, I want to link in the collection of our past reports, written since this portfolio was launched in early February. I was reminded by an angry reader that the Cash-King Portfolio is underperforming the S&P 500 (as well as a dozen other things The Motley Fool has done wrong), but I hope you'll find some value in our compilation of work. We've worked very hard at this feature; we hope you've enjoyed it; we hope you've been rewarded for reading it; and, of course, we expect to smashingly outperform the market over time. Four months -- whatevah. Let's all agree to meet here in ten years!

Here's a link to our past articles: Past Cash-King Portfolio Columns

Enjoy your weekend. I plan to spend mine talking turkey with Fools on a pontoon somewhere.
