(January 29, 1999) -- I've been invested in the S&P 500 for one month already. Irv reminds me that the reason Lucinda and I have lost any money at all is only because of the commission that we paid to get started. We could have paid much less. I've learned that now.
I read The Motley Fool Investment Guide last year, as you know, but I should have read the section about discount brokers two or three times. I tend to skim things that don't seem directly related to my livelihood. I think a lot of people are that way. That's why going into sales as a career is still such a lucrative thing. You can sell people anything if you rush them into it. Whole industries are based on that.
