Did Somebody Say McDonald's?
Duration: 00:07:07
The Dow Jones Industrial Average touched a record high this week, and McDonald's (NYSE: MCD) investors were loving it. The fast-food giant announced an increase in its dividend and saw its shares climb to a six-year high. With gourmet coffee, entree-size salads, and the McGriddle, this is definitely not your father's McDonald's. But can the Happy Meal maker continue to serve up happiness on Wall Street? And should McDonald's serve up breakfast for lunch and dinner as well? In this week's MarketFoolery, The Motley Fool's Chris Hill talks with Fool senior analyst Seth Jayson about the future of Mickey D's.
Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) General Counsel Ann Baskins resigned this week as the spy scandal continued to unfold. Does the end ever justify the means? And should investors resign themselves to more bad news from the computer maker? In our second MarketFoolery story, Seth and Chris discuss the latest on the HP spying scandal.
Former Enron CFO Andrew Fastow received a six-year sentence this week for his role in the collapse of Enron -- the same week that former WorldCom CEO Bernie Ebbers started serving a 25-year sentence for his role in the collapse of WorldCom. In our third story, Seth shares his thoughts on whether Fastow and Ebbers are getting their just -- or unjust -- rewards.
The CEO of eBay (Nasdaq: EBAY) China called it quits this week. eBay Japan closed up shop in 2002. Is eBay China next on the chopping/auction block? In our fourth MarketFoolery story, Seth shares his thoughts on why eBay may not translate in China.
And apparently money isn't everything. Craigslist founder Craig Newmark said this week that he has no plans to sell the social networking and classifeds website, which is partially owned by eBay. Newmark's comments came shortly after a Wall Street analyst said the social networking site MySpace could be worth around $15 billion in three years. In our final story, Seth gives his take on the business, and non-business, of Craigslist.
