As many of us are painfully aware, credit cards are very dangerous. Let me tell you my sad tale of woe, and then, how my husband and I have gotten out of our debt together.

As in some marriages, there is a saver and a spender. I was the spender. I would rack up credit card debt by the thousands of dollars (sometimes without him knowing). He would find out and we'd have a huge blowout fight.

I would cry and swear that I would never do it again. We would get the debt paid off, and then I would do it all over again. It is a miracle that I still have a husband (we have been married 16 years).

Finally, I found Debtors Anonymous. There were no meetings in my city, but I was so determined to stop my downward spiral of debt that I started a meeting myself. The "group" has been in existence since March of 2000. Week after week I would show up, waiting and waiting for someone to come... and, finally one other person came to my meeting! I want to spread the word about how to control spending and debt. I want to help others get their debt under control, and also get the strength to remain debt free myself.

I am also soon to become an investor.

I just wanted to let people know that no matter how bleak your situation seems, no matter how many times you have made mistakes, it is never too late to change. Cut up those credit cards. Get them paid off and start saving and investing in your future!
