Avnet Embedded’s Rorke Data Introduces Next Generation File-Based Editing Platform with HP Technology

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Rorke Data, a business unit of Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas, a business region of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), today announced its File-Based Editing Platform v.2.0 will include HP technology on a global basis.

Film, television and media content editors must deliver content in multiple formats and bit rates under tight deadlines. As they look to meet increasingly difficult requirements, they find that legacy storage solutions aren’t fast enough, cost-effective or scalable enough to meet their needs. Utilizing HP technology, Rorke Data provides a complete platform that is built on HP MSA Storage, HP StoreEver MSL Tape Libraries, HP Z Workstations, HP ProLiant DL380 G7 servers, and HP SN6000 Stackable Fibre Channel switches and also includes host bus adapters and system storage software – enabling editors to do more for less on an open, standards-based system. Rorke Data, a business unit within Avnet Embedded, helps simplify the editorial process by coupling Flavorsys’ Strawberry Project Management Software and its own HyperFS file System (Digital Content Archive), support services and supply chain management. This solution allows for near real-time revision control across multiple desktop platforms and remote locations. As well, it allows for multiple editing platforms to interoperate together in one storage area network (SAN), providing the ability to create content, collaborate and archive content from the online disk tier to cost-efficient and secure tape media.

Rorke Data will demonstrate these solutions at its booth (SU2606) at NAB (the National Association of Broadcasters) Show, April 8-11 in Las Vegas. NAB Show is comprised of content creators, managers and more – from all points along the broadcasting life cycle from creation to consumption. Attendees visiting the Rorke Data booth can see how HP and Rorke can help editors meet the challenges of content delivery.

“Editors around the world need a solution to store more files, streamline operations and cut costs on standards-based, open systems. This transformative end-to-end platform is available today from HP and delivered by Rorke – and it makes the editorial process easier, faster and more cost-effective than ever before,” said Chuck Kostalnick, senior vice president, Avnet Embedded.

“Outdated storage systems just can’t cut it anymore, especially for media and entertainment companies trying to deal with growing demand to store, manage and deliver more content at a faster pace,” said Ray Thompson, program manager, Storage, HP. “The Rorke File-Based Editing Platform with HP technology offers media content editors a fast, reliable and affordable solution for editing, managing and archiving content across multiple platforms.”
