7 Stocks Losing Top Investor Support

"Bull markets are born on pessimism, grow on skepticism, mature on optimism, and die on euphoria. The time of maximum pessimism is the best time to buy, and the time of maximum optimism is the best time to sell." -- Sir John Templeton

Just as it makes sense to research the stocks attracting top investors, it's equally important to figure out why smart money is leaving other investments. Using Motley Fool CAPS, the Fool's 135,000-member-strong investing community, we can see which stocks are losing support from CAPS All-Star players.

A sudden decrease in interest from top-rated investors could signal that the stock is losing steam, which might make it an awful stock to avoid for now. At the very least, such drops should signal that further research is in order.

Here are seven stocks receiving less support from CAPS All-Stars over the past month:

The "Motley Fool" helps drive down the stock of EPB by posting there opinions of some 200 readers of their group regardless whether they own or follow the stock. One would have to be a "Fool" to follow this advice.

How quickly Motley Fool Staff opinions can change.... NHI moves from faltering support in this article to rising (4) star in just under a week (refer to http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2009/08/18/4-star-stoc.... As of today (9/10/2009), NHI has returned to 5-star status.

Hmmm - time to buy... or time to sell?

Rather than, "at the very least", I'd say that at the very MOST "such drops should signal that further research is in order". Review your basis for establishing an equity position in the first place, and review your analysis when support, as signaled by price action, is waning. Reviewing and tightening stop losses can help protect gains as well.
