The companies could be forced to pay $11 billion, or $3.5 million per barrel spilled, compared to just $8,000 per barrel that BP (NYSE: BP  ) paid for last year's spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
  • An Israeli newspaper reports that Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL  ) will open a research and development center in Israel that will focus on semiconductors.
  • BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM  ) is struggling with the Indonesian government over a rule that would require the smartphone maker to build local data centers.
