The New Winners in This Trillion Dollar Revolution

The following video is part of our "Motley Fool Conversations" series, in which technology editor and analyst Andrew Tonner and consumer goods editor and analyst Austin Smith discuss topics across the investing world.

The rise of mobile communication played an integral part in the technological revolution of the late 1990s and early 2000s, a wave in which those invested early often did quite well. However, as mobile communication continues to evolve, the areas that appear the most profitable for investors has shifted. In this video, Andrew sits down to explain the shift at work, how you can see this shift clearly in the context of the most recent round of corporate earnings, and which areas appear most lucrative at present.

Big tech names might gather a lot of investor attention, but the truth is that they're playing second fiddle to an even larger revolution in technology. To better prepare investors for this new revolution, The Motley Fool has just released a free report on mobile named "The Next Trillion Dollar Revolution" that details a hidden component play inside mobile phones that also is a market leader in the exploding Chinese market. Inside the report, we not only describe why the mobile revolution will dwarf any other technology revolution seen before it, but we also name the company at the forefront of the trend. The Steve Jobs Betrayal
You may already know that in the final year of his life, Jobs revealed a stunning betrayal — and told his biographer, "I will spend my last dying breath... and every penny of Apple's $40 billion in the bank to right this wrong." What was it that made Jobs so irate — and why could it make a few in-the-know investors some major profits over the coming months and years?

Enter your email address below to find out what made Jobs so enraged!

Wow. Sorry guys but you are still missing a big piece of the pie. A new iPhone costs about $600 and Verizon/AT&T charges you $200 for it with a two year contract. Just to keep the math simple we'll say that the average contract is $100/month which is $2,400 for the life of the contract. So Apple makes $400/phone but VZ and T make $2,000/phone. I pity the fool that sees that as a bad investment for the telecoms. We saw huge volume numbers for Apple this quarter but we also saw millions of new contracted paying customers for the telecoms for these large data plans.

Yes money is trickling upstream in this industry but don't be fooled that VZ and T aren't setup for much larger profits over the long term. I don't include the smaller guys because they are having a tough time competing with the big two.
