Why This Tech Giant Looks Attractive

The following video is part of our "Motley Fool Conversations" series, in which analyst John Reeves and advisor David Meier discuss topics around the investing world.

Intel is the leading chipmaker in the world, with about 80% of the microprocessor market, compared with about 20% for Advanced Micro Devices. Yet Intel lags the competition in the mobile space. It aims to change all that and thinks it has the right plan going forward. David likes what he's seeing. The company offers a good dividend yield and a solid balance sheet, and he thinks it may be worth a closer look.

    That's 100%

So all those ARM chips made by Qualcomm and Samsung and TI and Nvidia and... , which dominate the mobile, tablet, mp3, camera, ... markets just don't exist then.

So on that score RIM have 80% of the mobile phone market with ZTE taking just 20%

And BMW have 99% of the car market with Aston Martin taking less that 1%

    @ H3D -

Mobile (tablet / smartphone) microprocessors are counted separately in this case, from my understanding. In terms of non-mobile microprocessors, the statement is correct. Since the sentence immediately following the one you quoted says "Intel lags... in the mobile space," it certainly makes sense that this was what the 80% figure referred to.
