There are two reasons investors pick up shares of telecom companies AT&T and Verizon -- stability and income. The former stood up well today as both the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 fell on heightened fears of impending doom in Europe. While most investors were heading for the exits, Verizon shareholders crawled, its stock down a de minimus amount on the day. Meanwhile, shares of AT&T rose in anticipation of tomorrow's earnings report from the Dow component.
