Sept. 12.

That's the date the tech world will be watching as Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) unveils its iPhone 5 to the world. That puts us at T-minus five days to the event, so investors need to make sure they're fully prepared for the opportunities that lie within.

This year's model will put up massive unit sales figures. Some estimates range as high as 250 million units throughout the product's life cycle, which would more than double lifetime unit sales to date. For numerous component suppliers, that spells profits as they ride on Apple's coattails to riches. Leading up to the event, I'm going to outline a handful of companies that I think will be winners of the iPhone 5.

Primary image sensor: OmniVision
When Sony (NYSE: SNE) was tapped for the iPhone 4S 8-megapixel shooter, OmniVision (Nasdaq: OVTI) shares were severely punished. Beyond the iPhone, Sony was even scoring major wins in high-end Samsung devices, including its latest Samsung Galaxy S III, which is particularly notable because Samsung makes its own BSI sensors. That's a testament to Sony's BSI prowess that it can beat out a Samsung component for a Samsung device.

On OmniVision's most recent earnings report, the company issued some blowout guidance for the coming quarter to all-time record highs, to the point where I find it definitive evidence that OmniVision has indeed retaken its coveted camera seat from Sony. I break down the digits in even more detail in the following report.
