The government has announced that Subaru is recalling recent-year automobiles to repair potential problems with the vehicles' accessory puddle lights, lights on the exterior of the vehicles that illuminate the area under the doors when opened.
As many as 633,842 vehicles may be affected by the recall.
According to the company, in some situations, a short circuit can develop when either the puddle light or its connector is exposed to an electrolytic moisture source, such as water or slush on the road that contains deicing salts. In the event a short develops, a fire could result.
Beginning in February, Subaru will contact owners of 2009-2012 model year Subaru Foresters, 2010-2011 model year Legacies and Outbacks, and 2006-2012 model year Tribecas and recommend that they visit a dealer to install a protective fused-harness to fix the problem, free of charge.
