Websense Names New CEO

Content control software firm Websense (NASDAQ: WBSN  ) announced Sunday that the company's board of directors has elected John McCormack, the company's president, as the new Chief Executive Officer and as a board member. The appointment will be effective immediately for McCormack, who follows retiring CEO Gene Hodges.

Websense also announced the appointment of Russ Dietz to the Chief Technology Officer position, as well as the election of Charles Boesenberg to the board of directors.

McCormack was named Websense president in 2009 after coming to the company in 2006 as a senior vice president. Company board chairman John Carrington explained the new CEO's credentials in a press release, saying, "As president, he has demonstrated his executive acumen while leading our worldwide sales and sales engineering teams; our marketing, product management, business development and technical support organizations; as well as the Websense Security Labs and research and development."

McCormack will receive a base annual salary of $525,000 and will be eligible to receive an annual cash performance bonus up to 100% of his annual base salary.

The company has entered into a "retirement and consulting agreement" with Hodges under which he will provide consulting services through February 2014 with a monthly fee of $5,000. Hodges had been CEO and a board member since January 2006.
