Netflix (NFLX -9.09%) has signed an exclusive distribution deal with content production company Flavor Unit Entertainment, which is owned by Queen Latifah and Shakim Compere.
Under the agreement, Netflix gets "first-look" access to the studio's movies. Beginning in the spring, the streaming service will get to pick and choose which films it wants to show on its streaming platform, "shortly after their theatrical release." Already set for streaming under the exclusive deal are House of Bodies and Percentage. Past Flavor Unit productions include Bringing Down the House and Beauty Shop.
Financial details of the "multiyear" deal were not disclosed. Though Flavor Unit is known for producing a number of successful TV series, the announcement specifically focused on theatrical movie releases.
"Netflix is such a strong brand and the perfect place to showcase our projects," said Flavor Unit co-owner Queen Latifah in a press statement.
"Queen Latifah has a long track record of creating hits and Flavor Unit Entertainment is a fresh and exciting voice in the industry," added Ted Sarandos, Netflix's chief content officer.
