The video below is taken from an interview that Motley Fool analyst Brendan Byrnes recently had with Set Godin, author of The Icarus Deception. Godin is also a talented public speaker, marketing guru, blogger, entrepreneur, and respected thought leader.

Seth's forward thinking and contrarian views are critical considerations for finding success in life, business, and investing.

It's the same approach our own Chief Investment Officer, Andy Cross, took when selecting The Motley Fool's Top Stock For 2013. I invite you to uncover his market beating thinking in this new free report. Just click here now for instant access.

Brendan: When you sat down to write this book, who did you write it for? Who do you think can take the greatest amount of use from this book?

Seth: I'm lucky that I interact with almost a million people a year. I wrote it for most of them. I wrote it for the grandchildren I don't have yet, and my kids, and I really wrote it for myself.

I wrote it because I need to be reminded that when I look back at what I did five years ago that mattered, or 10 years ago that mattered, answering all my email in one day isn't on the list. Showing up when I was required to show up isn't on the list.

What's on the list that I've done that mattered, always, is this art, this generosity, this opportunity to connect. When we are open and connected and generous, we are our best selves. This is the book, more than any other book I've written, that's for everyone I know.

Brendan: Great. Seth Godin, author of The Icarus Deception, an excellent book. Thank you so much for your time today.

Seth: Thank you, I appreciate it.
