The Department of Defense awarded defense contractor General Dynamics (GD -3.97%) two contracts Wednesday.
The larger of the two, a $29.7 million cost-plus-incentive-fee modification to a previously awarded contract, hired GD's Advanced Information Systems division, or GDAIS, to provide engineering and technical services in support of the AN/BYG-1 tactical control system for U.S. Navy submarines. GDAIS will be providing multiple variants of the system for use aboard multiple submarine platforms over time. It is expected to complete its work on this particular phase of the program by July 2014.
GD's smaller award, for $25 million, hires the company's information technology business to provide 300,000 hours of unspecified "integrated logistics services" in support of "technical analysis and investigations of Foreign Military Sales programs." This refers to the programs whereby the U.S. government acts as intermediary between U.S. defense contractors and foreign governments that wish to buy their weapons systems. GD's work on this second contract should wrap up by September 2014.
