With the release of the latest version of Microsoft's operating system, the company addresses some of Windows 8's issues.

Recently, Microsoft (MSFT -1.84%) announced the release of a test version of Windows 8.1 -- the company's answer to the barrage of complaints it received about Windows 8. While the new release contains a long list of improvements, there are three that stand out as being highly significant. As Microsoft must now compete with Apple and Google in ways it likely never imagined, Mr. Softy's ability to improve is critical.
