Best Buy Can't Save Microsoft Now

Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT  ) is starting to open stores inside hundreds of Best Buy (NYSE: BBY  ) locations, but it won't be enough to save the Surface RT tablet.

In this video, longtime Fool contributor Rick Munarriz explains why Microsoft's pricing strategy on the poorly received tablet isn't going to be helped by greater exposure.

Best Buy and Microsoft can't beat this thinking investor's mobile play
Want to get in on the smartphone phenomenon? Truth be told, one company sits at the crossroads of smartphone technology as we know it. It's not your typical household name, either. In fact, you've probably never even heard of it. But it stands to reap massive profits no matter who ultimately wins the smartphone war. Clearly this person needs some enlightment. Is it really BestBuy (who is dying breed) saving Microsoft (who reported record profit last quarter even with PC shipments down)? Think again.

Also per him, the store is all about surface RT, and nothing else. Talk about completely missing the boat on two things:

    1. The stores Microsoft opened is doing very well, and they can't expand fast enough.

    2. Without opening their own stores, now MSFT has thousands of stores in the US due to the partnership.

    3. There are ton of other products - Win 8 tablets from OEMs, laptops, ultrabooks, Xbox, Mice, keyboard, phones etc.. that gets sold through this channel

If anybody thinks that the Microsoft retail store play is for rescuing Surface RT, they need some common sense injected to them.
