Sempra Acquires 75 MW Nebraska Wind Farm

Sempra Energy (NYSE: SRE  ) announced today that it has acquired the beginnings of a 75 MW wind farm in Nebraska, putting its total joint-venture wind projects at more than 1,000 MW of generating capacity.

The Nebraska Public Power District has agreed to purchase the entire project's power output for the next 25 years, paving the way for predictable profits for Sempra.

According to Kevin Sagara, Vice President of Renewables for Sempra U.S. Gas & Powe:

We are pleased to have the opportunity to acquire, build and operate the Broken Bow 2 wind project and work with the state of Nebraska as it continues to establish itself as a renewable energy leader. Our company continues to invest in the development, construction and operation of renewable energy infrastructure. We look forward to providing a stable supply of clean power to the region and becoming a long-term partner with the local community.

Sempra expects to break ground on the project in December, and will purchase 43 of General Electric's (NYSE: GE  ) 1.7 MW wind turbines to power its project. The farm is expected to be fully operational by late 2014.
