On the final day of its fiscal year, the Department of Defense announced 95 separate defense contracts Monday, worth $5.526 billion in total. British defense contractor BAE Systems (BAES.Y 0.15%) won four of them:
- A contract to supply lightweight, advanced combat helmets to the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps, as needed and through Aug. 30, 2015. This contract could be worth up to $66 million if exercised in full.
- A new $39 million contract to supply the U.S. Army with AN/AAR-57(V) Common Missile Warning Systems and associated spare parts, plus related services. BAE will also provide support for the Army's OT-255/ALQ-212(V) Advanced Threat Infrared Countermeasures systems.
- A $15.4 million delivery order to supply the U.S. Marine Corps with 1,573 transparent armor gun shields (used to shield heavy gunners topside on armored vehicles), 3,346 battery-powered motorized traversing units (which turn the gun turrets), and 4,009 turret soft covers (to keep rain -- and grenades -- out). Delivery should be complete by June 2015.
- A $7.8 million contract modification to fund further maintenance and upgrades by BAE's San Diego Ship Repair unit on the U.S. Navy guided missile destroyer USS Higgins (DDG 76) through April 2014.
