Whether it wants the added pressure or not, Netflix's (NFLX -0.51%) deal with Sony (SONY 0.37%) for a new original TV series will have to fill the hole left by Breaking Bad, Fool contributor Tim Beyers says in the following video.

Production on the as-yet-untitled drama begins next year. Creators Todd A. Kessler, Glenn Kessler, and Daniel Zelman, best known for the hit legal drama Damages, expect to begin production next year, and promise a show about a troubled American family.

We've no idea if they'll draw inspiration from Breaking Bad, but the deal comes on the heels of Sony ending five profitable seasons producing the show. Netflix, for its part, gets a deal that's similar in scope to its arrangement for Orange Is the New Black, an original produced by Lions Gate.

Can Netflix and Sony create a worthy successor to Breaking Bad, one that draws an audience and profits for both producer and distributor? Tim answers this question and more in the video, so please watch now, and then leave a comment to let us know what you think.
