Equinix Gets a New CTO

Data center services provider Equinix  (NASDAQ: EQIX  )  has a new top tech geek.

The Redwood City, Calif.-based interconnected platform operator announced today that Ihab Tarazi has taken on the role of chief technology officer, effective immediately, hired away from Verizon, where he served as VP of enterprise network services. Tarazi will be responsible for operations at the Equinix International Business Exchange network, platform strategy, leading technology and innovation functions, and contributing to the company's cloud initiatives.

At Verizon, Tarazi was responsible for product strategy, life-cycle management, technology, and development for Verizon Network products, including IP, Ethernet, and transport. He also recently served as chairman for the Metro Ethernet Forum.

Commenting on the appointment, Equinix CEO and President Steve Smith said: "Equinix is a forward-thinking company focused on staying ahead of market trends to deliver leading interconnection services to our customers around the world. Ihab's depth of technology experience and vision will further enhance the customer experience for the more than 4,400 companies that leverage Platform Equinix."

Tarazi began his career at MCI, where he held various executive positions in network planning and engineering and led the expansion of enterprise services globally to Europe, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. He received his B.S. in electrical engineering and telecommunications from the University of Maryland and his M.S. in telecommunications management from Southern Methodist University.
