An Overlooked (but Important) Piece of News From Apple's iPad Event

While most observers focused on the new iPad Air following Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL  ) big event on Tuesday, Fool contributor Tim Beyers says the bigger news is in how Apple changed the governing dynamics of the Mac.

Specifically, Apple added two improvements to its signature Finder file system. Finder Tabs act like a multi-tabbed browser such as Chrome or Safari, only they show multiple views of files rather than multiple web pages. Finder Tags allow users to assign attributes to any file or folder to make them more easily searchable.

Tim says the changes unveiled at Apple's iPad event are long overdue and a welcome improvement, but are they also a game changer? Find the answer in the video, then leave a comment below to let us know where you stand.

I love tags, so it's great to see them in finder. After I install mavericks, I think I should be able to gradually get rid of all the subdirectories in my Document directory: it should be enough just to tag every file.

Having changed to an MacBook Air about 3 years ago from various PCs, the one thing I have ceaselessly complained about is the search capabilities of Finder. I feel vindicated in my annoyance, and look forward to tags as a way to have better luck with organization, something I am sorry to say that Microsoft Windows did or does better. Hope I am organized enough to put tags on my files!
