Only dinosaurs pay with a credit card -- the cool thing to do is to pay with your smartphone.

Forward-thinking payments companies like eBay's (EBAY 0.88%) PayPal have created great technology around mobile payments. PayPal's Check-In mobile app allows consumers to view establishments that accept PayPal, see coupon offers, and pay right from their phone.

But is the industry already moving past mobile phones?
