Change is in the air at Microsoft (MSFT -3.00%), and its investors should be jumping for joy.

After years of inaction in addressing Microsoft's minuscule mobile market share, Microsoft appears to finally have accepted its mistakes in mobile and is now actively working to address them.

The perfect case in point here is Microsoft's recent experience with Apple's (AAPL 0.33%) iPad. After holding out for far too long, Microsoft finally introduced a version of its Office productivity software for iPad, which has proven a resounding success for Microsoft and Apple alike. In fact, the day they went live, Microsoft's various Office programs immediately shot to the top of the App Store and have remained there since.

Apparently, Microsoft and Apple can work together after all.

Microsoft under the microscope
Investors will have their first chance to see how recent moves such as Office on Apple's iPad have shaped Microsoft's financial performance when the software giant announces earnings on April 24.

And while Microsoft's quarterly update will obviously help provide some useful short-term context, seeing the fruits of Microsoft's long-term strategy will take several years before it becomes fully apparent. However, as Microsoft investors saw with Microsoft's recent shift toward the iPad, Microsoft appears to have turned a corner in a big way in mobile as tech and telecom specialist Andrew Tonner discusses in the video below.
