One of the bigger winners when the Department of Defense awarded 29 separate defense contracts in its Friday evening announcement of contract awards was British defense contractor BAE Systems (BAES.Y 2.33%) (LSE: BA), which claimed three separate wins:
- A contract modification worth up to $89.5 million exercising the second (of two possible) option-year periods following a one-year base contract to supply the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps with enhanced small arms protective inserts -- sometimes referred to by the acronym ESAPI -- and referring to the ceramic plates inserted into body armor. Deliveries will be ordered through July 1, 2015.
- A $10.8 million contract modification to supply the U.S. Army with 61 fire-support sensor systems and seven sets of authorized stock-age list spares. Deliveries are due by May 22, 2015.
- A $10.7 million contract to design, develop, integrate, test, evaluate, install, field, certify, maintain, and support logistics activities for cooperative identification, non-cooperative target recognition air traffic control equipment, systems, and subsystems for the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division's Identification Systems Division. This work should be completed by April 2015.
