One of the bigger winners when the Department of Defense awarded 29 separate defense contracts in its Friday evening announcement of contract awards was British defense contractor BAE Systems (NASDAQOTH: BAESY ) (LSE: BA ) , which claimed three separate wins:
- A contract modification worth up to $89.5 million exercising the second (of two possible) option-year periods following a one-year base contract to supply the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps with enhanced small arms protective inserts -- sometimes referred to by the acronym ESAPI -- and referring to the ceramic plates inserted into body armor. Deliveries will be ordered through July 1, 2015.
- A $10.8 million contract modification to supply the U.S. Army with 61 fire-support sensor systems and seven sets of authorized stock-age list spares. Deliveries are due by May 22, 2015.
- A $10.7 million contract to design, develop, integrate, test, evaluate, install, field, certify, maintain, and support logistics activities for cooperative identification, non-cooperative target recognition air traffic control equipment, systems, and subsystems for the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division's Identification Systems Division. This work should be completed by April 2015.
