Two closely aligned oil producers just became the biggest: Whiting Petroleum (WLL) agreed to acquire Kodiak Oil & Gas(WLL), which makes the combined company bigger than the 800-pound gorilla in the Williston Basin, Continental Resources. With large shareholders owning positions in both companies the merger was not one that caught Wall Street by surprise. But there are plenty other oil-heavy producers that could be the next Kodiak Oil & Gas.
