On Feb. 22, online real-estate specialist Move (NASDAQ:MOVE) released fourth-quarter earnings for the period ended Dec. 31.

  • While revenue increased 7.9% to $71.8 million, operating income was in negative territory. However, Move booked a net profit of $18.5 million this quarter, thanks to $15.7 million from the sale of investments and stock-based compensation expense.

  • Of Move's two main segments, revenue from real estate increased 10%, while move-related services only increased 2.2%.

  • Move is a one-star stock (out of a possible five) in Motley Fool CAPS, our interactive stock-rating database. One of Move's competitors, Motley Fool Hidden Gems pick HouseValues (NASDAQ:SOLD), is also a single-star CAPS stock. HouseValues reported earnings yesterday but booked a net loss of $5.3 million for the quarter.
