4) Subj: Re: LS-120 Drives, Where are they?
Date: 19 May 1997 17:28:36 EDT
From: MarkRogo

<<I disagree. "Corp customers is not idiot." They knew and they will compare the spreed between LS-120 with ZIP. If CPQ wants to go with LS-120, they will be losing their customers. Which was the case before CPQ later become Iomega's customer. They knew the fact very well. LS-120 is a dead issue. Because CPQ found out Dell, MU and Gateway get much better response with internal ZIP, therefore drop LS-120 for ZIP.>>

Compaq is continuing to grow its global market share despite increasing the number of LS-120 equipped units shipped and adopting the Zip on exactly one consumer-oriented SKU. You are simply wrong, Skichang. Corporate customers may eventually require Compaq to adopt the Zip, but they sure haven't so far. And I'm certain Compaq hasn't lost a customer.

<<If no one ever want to pick up LS-120 as a standard equipment, that meant OEM does not believe LS-120 has any chance at all. Period.>>

LS-120 is standard on many SKUs at Compaq. I get they believe it has a chance in hell, at least.

<<The only thing that puzzle and interesting me among all those LS-120 topics is that why would a such smart person like Warrent has such strong believe in LS-120.>>

The thing that puzzles me is why all of you aren't afraid of a consortium that includes Compaq, Imation, Matsushita, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, and Siemens Nixdorf. The combined sales of those companies is easily a quarter of a billion dollars, vs. Iomega's $1.5 billion. You should be very, very afraid of them jamming their inferior technology down people's throats, just like IBM, Intel and Microsoft have done in the past. You should also read Andy Grove's "Only the Paranoid Survive." I sure hope Kim Edwards has and that he's very, very paranoid about the LS-120.

<<Other than that, nothing to talk about it. Dead Issue... Dead Issue.... Dear Issue......>>

Yeah, wishing makes it true. The LS-120 is dead. SyQuest is dead. Avatar is dead. MO is dead. CD-RW is dead. DVD-RAM is dead. Whew! Iomega is king.

Sarcastically,

Occam Copernicus
