Thursday, Iomega closed at $9 9/16, down $1/16 (-0.65%).

TODAY'S RECAP: For no obvious reason, Iomega's advertising took center stage in the IOM message board yesterday. Reports on the company's print and radio ads, coupled with the increased expectation of the imminent release of the Jaz2 drive, caused some hopeful expectation. The only non-ad post to make today's report still deals with IOM's appearance in a recent Forbes issue.

Enjoy!

..two GREAT ads (right hand pages one after another) in this weeks Newsweek...Feb 16th, 1998..

..the 'two consecutive ads' format makes a powerful statement, imo..

..the only other company doing this in Newsweek is Xerox, Pages 17, 19..

..and, if I may, those Xerox ads were photographed by yours truly..:)..

..hey, it's a living..:)..

Subject: Jaz2 Advertising

I heard a Jaz ad on the local rock station here in NYC today. They described the drive as being able to hold up to 2GB on a single disk. If it's a new commercial or not I don't know, but it's the first time I've heard and Jaz ads on the radio. I've heard plenty of SyQuest ads over the last couple of months.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say it indicates (along with CayugaDan's report of a Feb. 16 arrival time) that Jaz2 will actually ship this month.

Of course, with Iomega's track record, I'm not going to wager any more money on it than I already have.

Dan,

Have heard three different Jaz ads in the Dallas area during the last week. They were on 2 news/talk and sports/talk stations. They might be talking about 2 gig with compression? Probably best to not confuse the audience with Jaz and Jaz2. Need to introduce them to Iomega and the Jaz line.

I thought the ads were good. A little dumb/boring, but, they (IMO) explained the product and why you might need it slowly and clearly. Seemed to be pushing it as a backup device. The ads also seemed to be aimed at business, rather than individuals.

All in all, a good start.

If not posted already. IOM has an ad in todays WSJ. Ad has a Police Officer saying "Hold it right there Buddy" On the bottom of the ad it says "In Feb. 17th issue of the WSJ, IOM will run a personal storage solutions advertisement, featuring the Z,J, Ditto and Clik! drives that will stop you in your tracks, Visit www.iomega.com.

If they advertise Zips will sell.

Subject: Forbes Magazine's ASAP

From: KMil123

Should have posted this a few days ago.

The latest issue of Forbes supplemental magazine called ASAP features Iomega in an article titled "The ASAP Dynamic 100". In the area of "Peripherals on page 54.....Iomega is cited as number 2. An excellent mention; I'm surprised it has not, as of yet, been posted. It says "Iomega created the standard". "Iomega buried the competion". "Iomega hooked up with Dell, Compaq and HP, and convinced them to bundle its drives". and concludes by saying Iomega's external disk drive, dubbed Zip, has catapulted this once-floundering company into our second-biggest scorer in its category. Credit goes to CEO Kim Edwards, who came in swing in 1994 and pushed sales up from $141 million to an incredible $1.6 billion for the last 12 months".

BTW, Forbes rates Iomega with an UP arrow.......that is to say, an up year for 1998.
