S&P Adds Abaxis to SmallCap 600 Index

Standard & Poor's said Thursday that Abaxis Inc., which makes blood analyzers, will replace regional bank Alabama National BanCorporation in the S&P SmallCap 600 index at a future date.

RBC Centura Banks Inc., a subsidiary of Royal Bank of Canada, announced plans in September to acquire Alabama National in a deal valued at $1.6 billion.

Abaxis shares jumped 71 cents, or 2.6 percent, to $28.50 in after-hours trading. The stock fell 37 cents to $27.79 during the regular session.
