Altair Nanotechnologies Inc., a producer of particles for paints, coatings and sensors, said Friday Alan Gotcher has agreed to resign as chief executive.
Terry Copeland has been appointed to serve as interim president while the board searches for a permanent replacement.
Copeland joined Altair in November 2007 as vice president of operations for the company's power and energy group. Before joining Altair, Copeland worked as a general manufacturing consultant. He also has held positions at battery maker Duracell and chemicals maker DuPont Co.
Altair shares plunged 62 cents, or 17.3 percent, to $2.95 in afternoon trading. Shares have traded between $2.80 and $5.45 in the past 12 months.
