Manufacturer Tecumseh Products Co. on Wednesday said it plans to move its global headquarters to the Ann Arbor, Mich., area.
The company said its corporate, sales and engineering functions currently located in Tecumseh, Mich. will move to the Valley Ranch Business Park about 28 miles away in Pittsfield Township.
The move will begin in June, with most corporate functions to be transferred by July and the rest completed by the end of the year, Tecumseh said.
Tecumseh said the new location will help it attract talented people with international experience, while still being close enough to allow it to retain its current work force.
The relocation will affect about 200 people and is expected to be relatively cost-neutral.
Tecumseh makes compressors, electrical components and engine and powertrain products.
The news comes after the company's November announcement that it would close its manufacturing plant in Tecumseh.
The plant's activities, which include producing refrigeration systems and serving as the distribution center, will be moved to other plants in North America, the company said at the time.
Tecumseh shares rose 4 cents to $24.80 in aftermarket trading, after falling 83 cents, or 3.2 percent, to $24.76 in the regular session.
