Shares of gold mining companies fell Friday as the price of the precious metal fell in European and U.S. trading.
Gold traded in London at $922.80 per troy ounce, down from $926.50 late Thursday, and in Zurich it fell to $918.10 a troy ounce from $925.60. On the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, gold for June delivery closed down $4.80 at $927 an ounce.
Here is how some gold miners fared in Friday's trading:
Newmont Mining Corp. fell $1.04, or 2.2 percent, to $45.95
Barrick Gold Corp. fell $1.33, or 3 percent, to $42.69
Yamana Gold Inc. fell 40 cents, or 2.7 percent, to $14.22
Goldcorp Inc. fell $1.23, or 3 percent, to $39.31
