Cell Genesys Inc. said Tuesday that GVAX immunotherapy for prostate cancer, when used with ipilimumab, induces a cellular immune response that may be associated with a drop in prostate-specific antigen serum levels.
The South San Francisco, Calif.-based drug developer said the immunological data came from an ongoing Phase 1 clinical trial designed to evaluate safety and determine a maximum tolerated dose of ipilimumab when used with GVAX immunotherapy.
GVAX immunotherapy is an investigational product in development by Cell Genesys, and ipilimumab, also known as MDX-010, is an investigational product being developed by Medarex Inc. in partnership with Bristol-Myers Squibb Co.
Data were presented at the annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research in San Diego.
Shares of Cell Genesys slipped 2 cents, or 0.6 percent, to $3.14 in early afternoon trading Tuesday.
