Shares of broadline retailers finished lower on Tuesday as investors found items to worry about in a spate of earnings reports.
McDonald's earnings beat expectations, but the company said same-store sales fell in March. Coach Inc. also beat expectations, but shares fell after the company said it would no longer break down retail and factory outlet same-store sales, or sales in stores open at least one year. The company also said it would wait to issue fiscal 2009 guidance.
Meanwhile, oil prices reached fresh highs, raising concern about inflation
Here's how broadline retailers fared on Tuesday:
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. up 17 cents to $56.55
Target Corp. down $1.92 to $52.63
Costco Wholesales Corp. down $1.03 to $68.08
BJ Wholesale Club Inc. down $1.23 to $36.27
