WASHINGTON (AP) _ Defense contractor General Dynamics Corp. said Wednesday its first quarter earnings rose nearly 32 percent, led by big sales increases in the division that makes armored vehicles, tanks and combat equipment.

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) _ Schering-Plough Corp. on Wednesday reported a 48 percent plunge in first-quarter profit, mainly from costs related to its biggest acquisition ever, and the drugmaker trounced Wall Street expectations.

SEATTLE (AP) _ Shoe maker Skechers USA Inc. said Wednesday first-quarter profit rose 37 percent, helped by international wholesale and retail sales.

FOSTER CITY, Calif. (AP) _ Equinix Inc., which operates data centers, said Wednesday it swung to a profit during the first quarter due to sharp growth in both recurring revenue and new customers.

BOSTON (AP) _ EMC Corp.'s first-quarter profit dipped 14 percent on acquisition-related charges, but the data storage vendor managed to post a double-digit revenue gain amid a slow U.S. economy.
