Varian Semiconductor 3Q outlook below Wall Street forecast

Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates Inc., which makes equipment used to manufacture semiconductors, on Thursday guided for fiscal third-quarter profit between 21 cents and 26 cents per share.
The company also predicted revenue between $175 million and $185 million for the quarter ending in June.
Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expect profit of 47 cents per share on revenue of $233 million. Analysts' profit estimates typically exclude one-time items.
Shares of Varian Semiconductor fell $1.37, or 4.1 percent, to $32 in after-hours trading. The stock earlier rose $1.77, or 5.6 percent, to close at $33.37.
