Equities volume on Nasdaq OMX exchanges rises 72 percent

Exchange operator Nasdaq OMX Group Inc. said Friday average trading volume of equities on its exchanges increased 72 percent in March.

The average number of trades executed daily on Nasdaq OMX exchanges reached 11.5 million during the month. The average daily value of those deals increased 64 percent year-over-year to $104 billion.

Average daily volume among all equity and fixed-income derivative products increased 26 percent in March across all of Nasdaq OMX's exchanges.

For the 12th consecutive month, Nasdaq's matched market share led all U.S. equities at 30.6 percent.
