The Nasdaq 100 index ended higher Monday, pulled up by gains from Lamar Advertising Co., Level 3 Communications Co. and Petsmart Inc.
The index, which includes 100 of the largest nonfinancial securities listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market, gained 4.68 points to 1,923.26. The broader Nasdaq composite added 1.47 points to 2,424.40.
Lamar rose $1.49, or 3.9 percent, to $39.50.
Level 3 gained 9 cents, or 3.3 percent, to $2.82. Last week, the Internet network operator said it narrowed its first-quarter loss on strong demand for online video services.
Petsmart, a pet products retailer, rose 72 cents, or 3.1 percent, to $23.71.
On the losing side, shares of communications chip maker Broadcom Corp. fell $1.21, or 4.3 percent, to $26.78.
Shares of communications equipment company Tellabs Inc. shed 21 cents, or 3.9 percent, to $5.17.
And Microsoft Corp. slipped 84 cents, or 2.8 percent, to $28.99. On Friday, shares of Microsoft declined when quarterly results showed sluggish sales of Windows software.
