Canon to invest $600 million in new US plant

Canon Inc. plans to invest $600 million to build a manufacturing facility in the Hampton Roads region of southeastern Virginia, the camera and printer maker said Thursday.

Canon said the investment will create 1,000 new jobs. It plans to build a 700,000 square-foot facility to make cartridges for laser printers.

Canon's U.S.-listed shares added $1 to $50.97 in afternoon trading.
