Opening Glance: Microchip shares rise on earnings

Shares of major microchip companies rose with the broader market Thursday, helped by a series of positive earnings reports in the sector, including one from assembly and testing company Amkor Technology Inc. and chip maker Atmel Corp.

Here's how the major chip companies fared in trading Thursday:

Intel Corp. up 62 cents, or 2.7 percent, to $22.88.

Texas Instruments Inc. up 54 cents to $29.70.

Qualcomm Inc. up 31 cents to $43.50.

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. up 9 cents to $6.05.
