Shares of Level 3 Communications Inc. gained 15 cents, or 4.9 percent, to $3.23.

On the losing side, shares of Hansen Natural Corp. dropped $5.46, or 15.3 percent, to $30.14 after the beverage maker's first-quarter profit missed Wall Street's expectations.
