Albany International Chairman Frank R. Schmeler retires

Albany International Corp., a textiles and materials processing company, said Friday Frank R. Schmeler retired as chairman.

Erland E. Kailbourne, 65, replaces Schmeler, 69, as chairman. He has been a director since 1999 and is chairman of Financial Institutions Inc. and its Five Star Bank subsidiary.

Albany also named John C. Standish, 43, as vice chairman, a new position. Standish has been a director since 2001 and is a former Albany executive. Standish's family and family trusts own enough shares to cast about 55 percent of all shareholder votes.

Also, Thomas R. Beecher Jr., 72, retired as director.

Shares were unchanged at $33.59 in late-afternoon trading.
