Hansen Natural Corp., Steel Dynamics Inc. and Focus Media Holdings Ltd. were the biggest decliner on the Nasdaq 100 Friday, helping to drag the index lower.
The Nasdaq 100, which includes the 100 largest nonfinancial securities that trade on the Nasdaq stock exchange, lost 6.57 points to close at 1,960.29.
Shares of Hansen shed $1.54, or 5.1 percent, to $28.60, continuing their slide after the beverage maker posted a weaker-than-expected first-quarter profit earlier in the week.
Shares of Steel Dynamics lost $1.68, or 4.6 percent, to $34.49. On Friday, the steel maker said a subsidiary would buy the remaining interest in Recycle South LLC in a deal valued at about $370 million.
Shares of China-based advertising network operator Focus Media Holdings Ltd. slid $1.45, or 3.6 percent, to $39.03.
Among the gainers, shares of Activision Inc. soared $3.94, or 14.2 percent, to $31.64 after hitting an all-time high of $31.71 earlier in the session. The video game publisher posted a first-quarter profit that beat Wall Street estimates.
Shares of Leap Wireless International Inc. rose $4.38, or 8.7 percent, to $54.48 after the wireless communication company said its first-quarter loss narrowed.
Shares of Liberty Media Holdings Corp. International added 49, or 3.1 percent, to $16.11. On Thursday, the video programmer and communication services provider said its first-quarter revenue rose in all three of its segments.
